Abstract

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allocated $12.7 million to public housing authorities (PHA) through the Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative. This funding aims to provide housing assistance to young adults who are transitioning out of foster care, as they are particularly vulnerable to homelessness. The FYI program offers Housing Choice Voucher assistance to PHAs in collaboration with Public Child Welfare Agencies, with the goal of connecting youth and young adults in foster care with stable housing and reducing experiences of homelessness. The program targets individuals between 18 and 24 years old who have recently left or will soon leave foster care and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. [Extracted from the article]
