Abstract

The article examines the influence of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) Liberation Committee's methods and tactics on national liberation struggles in Africa between 1966 and 1973. Established in 1964 to coordinate support for liberation movements and manage a Special Fund, the Committee sought to unify African states' efforts against colonial and minority white regimes, distinguishing between colonial powers that accepted self-determination and those that rejected it. Through a series of reforms and decisions by the OAU Executive Council, the Committee enhanced its coordination, financial support, and diplomatic backing of recognized liberation movements such as the African National Congress (ANC), SWAPO, and MPLA. Despite internal challenges and rivalries among movements, the Committee played a key role in legitimizing liberation struggles, fostering unity, and applying diplomatic pressure on colonial powers, thereby significantly shaping Africa's decolonization process during this period.
