Abstract
The military regime in Burkina Faso, which came to power through a coup in 2022, has extended its rule for five years following national consultations. The coup leader and acting president, Ibrahim Traore, will be able to run in elections at the end of the transition period. The new charter also eliminates quotas for assigning seats in the legislative assembly and instead emphasizes "patriotism" as the criteria for selecting deputies. The charter also establishes a new body called the Korag, which will monitor and control the implementation of the country's strategic vision. The talks involved civil society representatives, security and defense forces, and lawmakers, but most political parties boycotted the discussions. [Extracted from the article]
