Abstract

The Conservative Party in the UK is concerned about the possibility of a heavy election defeat to the Labour Party due to tactical voting for the Liberal Democrats. Polling analysis suggests that the Liberal Democrats may gain more seats than the Tories and become the official opposition in Parliament. Many voters in Conservative-held districts are using online tools to determine the best way to vote in order to oust their Tory MP. Tactical voting is motivated by anti-Tory sentiment, and one in five voters plan to vote to stop another party from getting in rather than for the party that best represents their views. The Liberal Democrats are expected to win seats in traditional Conservative strongholds, and Nigel Farage's Reform UK party is also drawing Conservative voters. The Labour Party is relaxed about the Liberal Democrats potentially taking seats in southern England and hopes to win more than 400 seats. However, the scale of any victory is uncertain, and millions of voters remain undecided. Some Tories praise the professionalism of the Labour campaign and acknowledge that the public appears to want change. [Extracted from the article]
