Abstract
David Van Reybrouck's book "Revolusi: Indonesia and the birth of the modern world" provides a comprehensive and engaging account of Indonesia's struggle for independence. While the title may be misleading, as only the second half of the book focuses on the Indonesian revolution, the lengthy narrative allows readers to trace the trajectory of the anti-colonial movement from beginning to end. The book incorporates a range of sources, including Dutch, English, and Indonesian literature, as well as oral history interviews with a diverse group of informants. Van Reybrouck's informal writing style and use of rhetorical devices make the book accessible to non-specialist readers, although there are some minor inaccuracies and omissions. Overall, the book offers a compelling narrative and is a valuable resource for those interested in Indonesian history. [Extracted from the article]
