Abstract

Following Labour's general election victory, public ownership has made a tentative return to Britain's economic statecraft. Focussing on the example of GB Energy—the proposed publicly owned clean power generator—the article explores the functional case for public ownership and investment as the most effective mechanism for rebuilding Britain, and sets out a pathway for its strategic expansion.
