Abstract
A report by the American Enterprise Institute, co-authored by Donald Schneider, deputy head of US policy at Piper Sandler Cos., suggests repealing the tax break that state and local governments use to attract investment in their debt. This proposal is seen as a major threat to the $4 trillion municipal-bond market, where governments finance infrastructure projects. Piper Sandler is one of the top investment banks for municipalities in the US and Schneider's views are independent. The proposal has received pushback from industry participants who argue that the tax-exemption is valuable and necessary for state and local governments. [Extracted from the article]
