Abstract

Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have officially left the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and formed their own confederation. Despite efforts from ECOWAS to reconcile, Mali's Foreign Minister, Abdoulaye Diop, has stated that the exit is irreversible. Diop expressed openness to cooperation with ECOWAS but opposed the introduction of visas for nationals of the three countries traveling within the region. The departure raises concerns about the impact on the free movement of goods and people within the region. [Extracted from the article]
