Abstract

The article focuses on the celebration of Václav Havel's presidency by young Czechoslovaks during a New Year's Eve rally at Wenceslas Square in Prague, following the Velvet Revolution that ended 41 years of Communist rule. The Velvet Revolution was characterized by mass protests led by students and dissidents, marking a significant shift in Czechoslovak history. Wenceslas Square served as a central location for these anti-communist demonstrations, and it is historically significant due to events such as the self-immolation of student Jan Palach in protest of the Warsaw Pact invasion.
