Abstract
This report focuses on recent scholarship in Indigenous peoples' geographies, specifically Indigenous environmental politics and how land is central to Indigenous governance, legal orders, and processes of decolonization. It highlights critiques by Indigenous scholars of partnerships that prioritize Western knowledge over Indigenous knowledge, emphasizing the importance of Indigenous legal traditions and relational governance in environmental justice. The report also addresses the environmental violences inflicted by colonial legal and regulatory regimes, including gendered impacts, and underscores the ongoing resistance and relational approaches Indigenous peoples employ to sustain their lands, waters, and communities. It concludes by framing environmental justice through Indigenous relationalities, advocating for justice that restores and honors Indigenous connections to land and non-human relatives.
