Abstract
This article introduces the concept of shared identity endorsement narratives (SIENs), defined as celebrity endorsements of political candidates that intentionally emphasize shared social identities between the endorser and the endorsed to build community support. Focusing on two SIENs of Vice President Kamala Harris by Indian American celebrities, the study uses social identity theory to analyze how these endorsements foster solidarity among Indian Americans while also risking the homogenization of Indian American identity by overlooking caste, ethnolinguistic, and racial differences, including Harris's Black heritage. The article highlights the significance of social media as a platform for these endorsements and underscores the need for research to move beyond measuring endorsement efficacy to critically examining their rhetorical content and cultural implications. This framework offers insights into the complexities of minority identity construction and political engagement in the diversifying American media and political landscape.
