Abstract

Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines, is a controversial figure known for her extravagant lifestyle and involvement in a regime that committed human rights abuses. Despite this, the Marcos family has regained political power in the Philippines, with Imelda's son winning the presidential election. Nathan Go's novel, "Forgiving Imelda Marcos," explores the theme of redemption and forgiveness, suggesting that transgressors can only be redeemed if they admit their wrongs and make amends. However, the novel has been criticized for overlooking the Marcos family's role in rewriting history and failing to acknowledge the ambivalent legacy of other political figures. The article also highlights the ongoing efforts to shed light on the dark era of dictatorship in the Philippines. [Extracted from the article]
