Abstract

The article focuses on a study evaluating the effectiveness of ayahuasca ceremonies integrated into a culturally-attuned mental health program for the Indigenous Yaqui community in Mexico. Conducted at the Yaqui Intercultural Medicine Clinic, the observational pilot study involved 37 patients diagnosed with various mental health disorders, including anxiety and depression. Results indicated significant reductions in symptoms, with notable improvements in depression and anxiety scores after participating in ayahuasca sessions. The findings suggest that such community-based programs may offer promising mental health treatment options for Indigenous populations, warranting further research. [Extracted from the article]
