Abstract
The Keystone oil pipeline, operated by South Bow Corp., was shut down after a spill in southeast North Dakota, impacting a significant portion of Canada's crude exports to the US. The spill was detected quickly after a pump station worker heard a loud noise, and the volume of oil leaked is currently unknown. The pipeline will remain closed until workers can locate and repair the source of the leak, causing US crude futures' prompt spread to surge on concerns of tightening supplies at the Cushing storage hub in Oklahoma. South Bow Corp.'s shares declined following the news of the spill, and the discount for Western Canadian Select heavy crude widened in response. [Extracted from the article]
