Abstract
In 2020, a group of 16 young plaintiffs aged 5 to 22 took the state of Montana to court for violating their right to a clean environment. After a lengthy legal battle, they emerged victorious when a judge ruled that Montana must consider the effects of climate change when making decisions about fossil-fuel projects. Two of the plaintiffs, Sariel Sandoval and Claire Vlases, spoke with TIME for Kids about their motivations for participating in the trial and their hopes for the future. They emphasized the importance of taking action to address climate change and expressed optimism that their case would inspire younger generations to do the same. [Extracted from the article]
