Abstract
PJM Interconnection, the operator of the largest US grid, issued a Level 1 emergency alert due to increased electricity demand caused by cold weather. The network expects energy use to approach a record set almost ten years ago as temperatures drop across the Eastern US. PJM also issued a maximum generation alert to reduce electricity exports to neighboring grids, ensuring energy reserves are maintained. This alert coincides with severe weather conditions affecting various parts of the country, including disrupting travel and posing threats to the nation's energy infrastructure.
