Abstract

PJM Interconnection, the operator of the largest US grid, issued a Level 1 emergency alert due to increased electricity demand caused by cold weather. The network expects energy use to approach a record set almost ten years ago as temperatures drop across the Eastern US. PJM also issued a maximum generation alert to reduce electricity exports to neighboring grids, ensuring energy reserves are maintained.
