Abstract

Botswana is exploring the possibility of constructing a new 615-megawatt coal-fired power plant near its existing facility to address ongoing generation issues. The current 600-megawatt Morupule B power station has faced operational challenges since its construction in 2012, leading to maintenance work. If the current remedial efforts do not succeed, the government is considering the development of a new coal-fired power plant as a base load generation option to prevent a potential power crisis. Previous attempts to expand the existing facility in 2019 were unsuccessful. [Extracted from the article]
