Abstract
The article focuses on China's unprecedented electricity consumption, which surpassed 1 trillion kilowatt-hours for two consecutive months this summer, driven by extreme heat and economic recovery. In July and August, power usage reached 1.0089 trillion and 1.0154 trillion kilowatt-hours, respectively, marking new global records. The surge was largely attributed to a significant increase in residential cooling demand, with household electricity consumption rising 18% year-on-year in July. This trend highlights the growing pressure on China's power grid due to extreme weather and indicates a shift towards greater reliance on renewable energy sources to meet peak demand and support decarbonization efforts.
