Abstract

The African Development Bank has approved a Country Strategy Paper (CSP) for Malawi for the period of 2023-2028. The strategy focuses on two main areas: improving economic infrastructure through investments in energy, transport, water, sanitation, and hygiene, and supporting economic growth through investments in agriculture value chains. The goal is to promote inclusive and sustainable development by enhancing accessibility, competitiveness, and agro-industrialization. The Bank will also increase its financing in the transportation sector to improve connectivity and reduce costs, as well as support efforts to address climate change through eco-friendly road projects. In the energy sector, the Bank will help expand access to power, reduce blackouts, and connect Malawi to regional energy hubs. Additionally, the Bank will contribute to the development of agribusiness by improving productivity, diversifying crops, and supporting value addition through agro-processing. Currently, the Bank has 18 active projects in Malawi with total commitments of USD 222.7 million. [Extracted from the article]
