Abstract

The article focuses on the establishment and impact of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in the Tennessee Valley during the 20th century. Created in response to the Great Depression and signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1933, the TVA aimed to address issues such as flood control, power production, and agricultural improvement. The TVA significantly transformed the region, increasing incomes and eradicating malaria through public health initiatives. Despite facing opposition from the electrical power industry and some political figures, the TVA's contributions to economic and social development in the Tennessee Valley were profound, marking a shift from poverty to progress in the area.
