Abstract
The article focuses on South Bow Corp.'s consideration of expanding its pipeline system, potentially reviving elements of the canceled Keystone XL project. Bridger Pipeline LLC has applied to build a 550,000 barrel-per-day line transporting Canadian crude through Montana to Wyoming, originating near Keystone XL’s planned border crossing. South Bow, a spinoff of TC Energy Corp. which originally proposed Keystone XL, aims to leverage existing infrastructure and permitted corridors in Canada to connect with U.S. pipelines, possibly repurposing Keystone XL’s unused pipeline segments. The Keystone XL project, initially proposed in 2008 to carry crude from Alberta to U.S. refineries, was politically contentious and ultimately canceled in 2021 by President Joe Biden after partial construction in Canada.
