Abstract
The 2023 parliamentary election in Timor-Leste saw the return of historical leaders Xanana Gusmão and Jose Ramos-Horta, but there are expectations for a transition to younger leaders. The country is facing economic challenges and the election highlighted the importance of addressing youth issues. Xanana Gusmão's CNRT party emerged as the frontrunner but fell short of a majority. The article also discusses the low representation of women in local government, challenges in economic diversification, foreign policy goals, and the country's relationship with China, Australia, and Portugal. Timor-Leste must diversify its economy and address its youth bulge. [Extracted from the article]
