Abstract
Representatives from nearly 200 countries gathered at the UN COP28 climate summit in Dubai and agreed to begin reducing global consumption of fossil fuels. While the deal marks a significant step towards transitioning away from fossil fuels, some oil-producing countries refused to sign up for a complete phase-out. The agreement also includes initiatives to promote renewable energy, increase energy efficiency, reduce methane emissions, and expand carbon-free nuclear power. However, more ambitious climate action is still needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, as current commitments would result in an increase in emissions by 2030. [Extracted from the article]
