Abstract
The article focuses on the 2026 annual summit of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, which brought together CEOs from major American companies to discuss the growing business case for sustainable practices amid an energy crisis and geopolitical tensions. Rising oil and gas prices, triggered by disruptions such as Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have highlighted the risks of energy dependence and the need for energy independence. Corporate leaders are increasingly empowered to address supply chain vulnerabilities through renewable energy investments, including power-purchase agreements and technologies like solar and battery storage. These developments reflect a shift toward sustainable energy solutions as both economically viable and strategically necessary for large companies. [Extracted from the article]
