Abstract

The article focuses on Tenaga Nasional Bhd.'s recent two-year agreement to facilitate power transmission from Laos to Singapore, marking progress in Southeast Asia's goal of creating an interconnected electricity grid. This agreement will utilize existing infrastructure to transmit 30-100 megawatts of electricity from Laos, which is referred to as the region's "battery," to Singapore, which faces resource limitations. The initiative is part of the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), although the broader vision of a supergrid for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations has faced challenges related to regulations, technology, and financing. The agreement also follows a previous contract established in 2024 for additional power transmission from Malaysia to Singapore. [Extracted from the article]
