Abstract

West Africa's coastal nations, including Nigeria, Togo, Benin, and Ghana, are preparing for potential deadly floods from the Sahel region. Record-breaking rains in the Sahel have already caused significant damage and loss of life, and poor drainage and heavier-than-usual rains increase the risk of further flooding. Coastal areas of Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana are expecting heavier rains this month, and Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency has put coastal towns on high alert. Humanitarian organizations are emphasizing the importance of anticipatory action to save lives and mitigate the impact of flooding. However, there are still challenges in terms of housing, shelter, water, and sanitation, leaving many vulnerable communities with nowhere to go. [Extracted from the article]
