Abstract
Residential electricity prices in the United States are rising faster than the overall consumer price index, with prices increasing by 3.6% in February compared to the previous year. This trend is impacting households across the country, including in California where the largest electricity provider, PG&E Corp., raised bills by 13% in January. The rising costs are attributed to the need for utilities to fund major infrastructure upgrades, including transitioning to greener alternatives and increasing generation capacity to meet growing demand. While some relief may come as expenses moderate and new capacity is built, ratepayers will ultimately bear the cost of these investments. [Extracted from the article]
