Abstract

The recent heatwave in southeast and southern Asia has led to a surge in demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) for cooling purposes. The high temperatures and increased air conditioning usage have pushed Asian LNG spot prices above $11/mn Btu. Countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and India have experienced record-breaking temperatures and power demand, leading to additional LNG spot purchases to meet the increased fuel needs. China, Kuwait, and Egypt are also seeing a rise in LNG import demand due to the heat. However, as prices continue to rise, alternative energy sources such as coal, domestic gas, renewables, and oil products are becoming more attractive options. [Extracted from the article]
