Abstract
The article discusses a decision-making bias called the solution fixation trap, which occurs when a team rushes into discussing possible solutions without fully understanding the problem. This can lead to committing to the wrong course of action. The authors conducted a study using 28 teams and developed a method to visualize and analyze a team's decision-making behavior. They found that low-performing teams were more focused on solution exploration and assessment rather than gathering and analyzing information. The article provides strategies for managers to prevent their teams from falling into the solution fixation trap, such as starting meetings by reviewing all available information and encouraging evidence-based decision-making.
