Abstract
This study focuses on undocumented Latinx older adults' perceptions and experiences of economic security in the United States, based on in-depth interviews with 25 participants averaging 61 years old and residing in California. Findings reveal that while some have long-term job stability, many face cycles of job insecurity, low wages, and limited opportunities for savings or retirement planning due to their undocumented status and exclusion from federal benefits such as Social Security. Participants often rely on working until physically unable, returning to their country of origin, or family support in old age, highlighting chronic financial instability and vulnerability. The study underscores the need for targeted economic empowerment interventions, workplace protections, and policy reforms to improve financial security and reduce exploitation among undocumented older adults.
