Abstract

This article focuses on the lived experiences of voluntary highly skilled migrants in the United Kingdom, a demographic often overlooked in migration research despite their socio-economic contributions. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) of semi-structured interviews with four young, educated female migrants from diverse origins, the study identifies key themes including identity, belonging, personal choice, and continual transformation. Participants described navigating a liminal space where migration serves as a catalyst for self-actualisation, balancing authenticity with feelings of Otherness and negotiating multiple senses of home. The findings highlight the unique psychological and social challenges faced by this group, suggesting implications for mental health policies and support services tailored to their distinct needs.
