Abstract
This article investigates the extent to which men endorse coercive and willful (enthusiastically consensual) sexual tactics, using vignettes derived from the popular men's dating book *The Art of Seduction* and a sexual willingness framework. Surveying 381 U.S. men, the study found that approximately 25–29% endorsed coercive tactics, while a majority endorsed willful tactics. Key predictors of endorsing coercive tactics included fraternity membership, frequent pornography viewing, affiliation with organized religion, knowing someone prosecuted for sexual violence, and receiving abstinence-only sex education; some of these factors also predicted endorsement of willful tactics. Although sexual orientation was not a significant predictor in regression models, gay, bisexual, and queer men showed higher coercive tactic endorsement than heterosexual men in bivariate analyses. The findings highlight the complexity of men's attitudes toward sexual consent and coercion, suggest limitations of current consent education, and emphasize the need for culturally sensitive prevention programs targeting at-risk groups.
