Abstract
This article examines the impact of depression on cognitive performance in a healthy Mexican adolescent population. The study involved 41 Spanish-speaking adolescents in Mexico, divided into groups with normal symptoms of depression (NSD) and abnormal symptoms of depression (ASD), who completed various cognitive tests including the Stroop Color Word Test, Boston Naming Test, and Digit Span tasks. Results indicated that adolescents with normal depression symptoms outperformed those with abnormal symptoms on several cognitive measures, suggesting that current depression levels significantly affect cognitive abilities. The authors recommend further research with larger samples to explore the influence of depression on both verbal and non-verbal cognitive functions in this population.
