Abstract

The article focuses on the multifaceted nature of reading development, emphasizing that successful reading encompasses more than just cognitive strategies and skills. It identifies four critical factors—metacognition, motivation and engagement, epistemic beliefs, and self-efficacy—that significantly influence students' reading achievement. The authors argue that while cognitive skills are essential, these affective factors play a crucial role in fostering a positive reading experience and should be integrated into reading instruction. The article highlights the need for educators to broaden their approach to reading development by considering these additional dimensions to enhance student engagement and success in reading.
