Abstract

This article focuses on the relationships between memory aid use, memory complaints, and meta-prospective memory (PM) accuracy in healthy older adults and those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The study found no significant difference in memory aid usage or its correlation with PM performance between the two groups. However, correlations between memory aid use—particularly internal aids—and memory complaints differed significantly: in the MCI group, greater internal aid use was associated with fewer memory complaints, while in healthy controls, aid use corresponded with more complaints. These findings suggest that the impact of memory aid use on individuals' perceptions of their memory may vary depending on their neurocognitive status.
