Abstract
This article examines whether Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) influence the effects of High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (HD-tDCS) on episodic memory in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or Alzheimer's Dementia (AD). In a study of 18 participants, including 8 stable on SSRIs, HD-tDCS was applied over the medial frontal cortex, and episodic memory was assessed before and after treatment. Results indicated that SSRI use did not significantly predict changes in verbal or visual episodic memory performance following HD-tDCS. The findings suggest SSRIs may not alter HD-tDCS outcomes for episodic memory in this population, though further research with larger samples is recommended.
