Abstract

Popular television programmes such as Criminal Minds and CSI often depict forensic psychology in a way that can create misconceptions about the actual work done by these professionals. Reality is often anything but the glamorous version that is portrayed in these types of television programmes, but what is true is that forensic psychology is a specialised field where these professionals can play a vital role in solving crime. Forensic psychologists work closely with law enforcement agencies, the criminal justice system and other specialists to assist in criminal investigations and provide insights into the behaviour and motivation of criminals. The work done by forensic psychologists such as Col Kirsten Clark of the Investigative Psychology Section (IPS), is essential in understanding the minds of criminals and providing insights that can help to solve crimes and prevent future offences.
