Abstract

This case study examines the transfer of skills from a marketing career to applied sport psychology practice during the British Psychological Society's (BPS) Qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology (QSEP). It reflects on how competencies such as client relationship building, problem diagnosis, communication, and data triangulation were adapted across stages of sport psychology delivery, including intake, client needs analysis, case formulation, intervention, and evaluation. The author highlights challenges in adapting marketing approaches—such as time-saving directness and post-intervention measurement—to the more collaborative, ethically guided, and ongoing reflective practices required in sport psychology. The study underscores the value of supervision, applied literature, and peer reflection in refining these transferable skills to support effective and ethical client work.
