Abstract

This article presents a collaborative account from feminist psychologists affiliated with the Intersectional Violences Research Group (IVRG) on the challenges and strategies involved in "doing feminism on the ground." Drawing on a 2022 roundtable discussion and Sara Ahmed's concept of "sweaty concepts," the authors explore how feminist psychological work is often marginalized through professional exclusion, epistemic erasure, and demands for simplistic solutions that flatten complex feminist analyses. Participants describe feminist work as difficult, embodied labor requiring strategic negotiation, including self-censorship, rewriting questions, and balancing risk to incrementally open spaces for feminist perspectives. The article emphasizes the importance of feminist solidarity spaces for sustaining this work and frames the collective generation of knowledge about these struggles as both a form of resistance and a source of hope for transformative change.
