Abstract
This article focuses on a meta-analysis examining the effects of expressive writing (EW) interventions on coping with breast cancer, particularly regarding quality of life (QOL) and psychological symptoms. The analysis reviewed randomized controlled trials conducted in the United States from 2008 to 2023, finding that EW can reduce physical symptoms and improve mood, sleep, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among breast cancer patients and survivors. The study highlights a lack of research on EW's impact on sexual well-being and notes limited data on ethnic minorities, though some benefits were observed among Asian American participants, potentially due to cultural factors. The authors emphasize the need for further research on diverse populations and sexual health outcomes in breast cancer coping strategies.
