Abstract

This article examines how the television series *Succession* illustrates the experience of regret and offers three research-backed strategies for managing it: finding closure, gaining psychological distance through motivated reasoning, and embracing compartmentalization. It highlights how the Roy siblings' reactions to their father Logan's impending death reveal common human regrets, especially about missed opportunities to express love or forgiveness. The article explains that regret can motivate personal growth if fully acknowledged, while strategies like closure and compartmentalization help reduce its emotional intensity and maintain focus on present responsibilities. These approaches may enable individuals to transform regret from a paralyzing emotion into a catalyst for constructive change.
