Abstract
This article focuses on the implementation of contextual recruitment strategies to enhance equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the recruitment of assistant psychologists (APs) within a neuropsychology department, aligned with the British Psychological Society's (BPS) and Health Education England's (HEE) initiatives. It outlines a novel, phased approach—pre-application, peri-application, and onboarding—that includes measures such as revising person specifications, incorporating values-based video submissions, and providing extended induction and tailored support for successful candidates without prior clinical experience. Reflections from an aspiring clinical psychologist who experienced this process highlight how these strategies fostered inclusivity, personal validation, and professional development. The article suggests that such contextual recruitment practices could serve as a template for other neuropsychology services aiming to build a more diverse and representative psychology workforce.
