Abstract
This letter discusses the "Shield Together Initiative" at Taoyuan Psychiatric Center, which adapts preference assessments and reinforcement strategies to increase mask-wearing compliance among adults with intellectual disabilities, as informed by prior research. The initiative uses visual and tactile educational materials tailored to diverse cognitive abilities and includes staff support to ensure correct mask use. The center emphasizes individualized protocols and ongoing adaptation of mask policies based on feedback to promote sustained health-protective behaviors. A detailed visual mask-wearing protocol is provided to aid psychiatric patients in consistent and proper mask use.
