Abstract

This article investigates attitudes and knowledge about dis/ability in drama therapy by applying an art-based research (ABR) method called poetic inquiry to previously collected qualitative data. The study analyzes participants' perspectives through four dis/ability models: the moral model, the medical model, the social model, and the disability justice model, creating blackout poems to deepen understanding and communicate findings. Conducted within an emancipatory educational action research framework by dis/abled drama therapists, the research highlights the pervasive influence of these models on practice and underscores the need for enhanced education on dis/ability in the field. The authors argue that ABR offers a valuable, embodied way to engage with complex data and disrupt normative systems in disability discourse and drama therapy.
