It emphasizes the importance of understanding the reasons why people choose to stay silent and addresses issues such as power differentials, learned silence, and cultural norms. The article suggests several tactics that managers can use, including expressing intent, using standard questions, discussing communication preferences, lending social capital, and accurately attributing work. By actively removing obstacles and creating a safe environment, managers can encourage employees to share their perspectives and create a culture of voice rather than silence.
