Abstract
The article reviews chromotherapy, the therapeutic use of colored light, as a modulator of zebrafish (Danio rerio) behavior, focusing on its effects on stress, learning, and memory. Zebrafish, possessing tetrachromatic vision and well-characterized behavioral responses, serve as an effective model for studying innate color preferences—particularly for red and green—and their influence on exploratory behavior and cognitive flexibility, assessed through assays like T-maze and Y-maze tests. The review highlights how chromotherapy may impact neurohormonal pathways and physiological processes, suggesting its potential as a non-invasive behavioral modulator with translational relevance for vertebrate models. It also emphasizes the importance of considering innate color biases in experimental design to accurately interpret learning and memory outcomes in zebrafish research.
