Abstract

For some children and young people, gender identity issues can cause confusion and distress as they strive to find their place among their peers and wider society. Strong views on gender identity, often expressed through social media and other platforms, may increase an individual's sense of stigma, even shame, as they struggle to come to terms with feeling different, giving rise to gender dysphoria.
