Abstract
The article focuses on the relationship between the trait Need for Cognition (NFC) and performance on fluid intelligence tests, specifically Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices (RAPM). In a study of 174 undergraduate students, reaction time (RT) was found to partially mediate the positive association between NFC and RAPM scores, indicating that individuals with higher NFC tend to persist longer on test items, which improves their performance. However, since NFC and RAPM remain significantly correlated after accounting for RT, other factors beyond test persistence likely contribute to this relationship. The findings suggest the need for further research to identify additional variables influencing the link between NFC and fluid intelligence test outcomes.
