Abstract

This article focuses on the effects of early microsurgical varicocelectomy on hormone levels in adolescent males with grade 2 (G2) and grade 3 (G3) varicoceles. A retrospective review of 67 patients aged 10 to 17 showed that preoperative free testosterone (FT) levels were significantly lower in those with G3 varicoceles compared to G2. Postoperative total testosterone (TT) levels improved in G3 patients, although not to a statistically significant degree, and no complications or varicocele recurrences were reported. The study suggests early surgical intervention for G3 varicoceles is safe and may positively influence hormone levels, warranting further research with larger cohorts.
