Abstract
This article focuses on preregistered replications of three influential studies related to escalation of commitment and regret aversion in decision-making, conducted by researchers affiliated with the University of Geneva, Switzerland. The first study partially supported Staw's (1976) findings on personal responsibility and consequences influencing escalation of commitment, while the second and third studies failed to replicate earlier results regarding feedback effects on risk preferences and the causal role of personal responsibility and regret in commitment escalation. Extensions of these studies found limited correlations between regret tendencies and risk preferences, and no support for neuroticism's impact on escalation of commitment. The research, funded by the University of Hong Kong Teaching Development Grant, contributes to understanding factors affecting individuals' commitment to decisions and has undergone peer review.
